Ross McIntire is a yoga teacher based in Oakland, CA. He is also a professional drummer.
Ross was born and raised in Menlo Park, CA. He took gymnastics for a few years at a young age. However, his teacher moved back to Russia and Ross did not continue with gymnastics. Like most kids,Ross played soccer, basketball and baseball. After playing his final season of baseball, his strongest sport, Ross began to excel at skateboarding and began weight training. It wasn’t until college that Rossdiscovered running. “I was never really forced to run a lot, so I really enjoyed running more than most people. There is something so raw, so natural about running.” He entered a handful of races and became immersed in the sport. “I was always worried about whether or not I could do this forever.”
After becoming concerned about the long-term effects that running posed, Ross tried Bikram Yoga. “I was immediately hooked.” After a few short months, Ross became bored with the predictability of the classes and discovered Ashtanga and Vinyasa yoga. “These styles of yoga allow for endless progress. You can practice this yoga for the rest of your life and probably live longer because of it.”
Ross integrates rhythm and improvisation into all his classes. Ross’s classes focus on the importance of safety and alignment, as well as the connection of presence, breath, and movement. With a background of skateboarding and running, Ross understands that not everyone is an athlete in the traditional sense. Expect a serious and exhilarating workout with plenty of room for humor. Rosscompleted his yoga teacher training at Flying Studios with Laura Camp. He is also an aerial enthusiast and TRXpert.
