Jess Sandhu
Jess Sandhu, OYO Instructor
Washington, DC
Jess began practicing yoga in 2002, immediately falling in love with savasana—-finding the practice relaxing for the body and soothing for the mind. Through the years, Jess has practiced various forms of yoga including but found a home with Iyengar in 2003. The Iyengar method, because of it’s alignment-based principles, allowed for more understanding of the poses benefits and created a deeper connection to her body. She now practices Ashtanga and calls her personal practice, “Ashtan-gar” – a blend of her two practices.
Jess has dealt with lower back pain throughout the years and found yoga super beneficial in alleviating it. When more yoga was integrated into her life, things seemed less hard and life actually became more sweet! Less Dukha, More Sukha. She has completed her 500-hour Hatha in Victoria, BC, 200-hour vinyasa flow in DC, 30-hours of Kundalini training in Silver Spring, MD, 40-hour Elemental Vinyasa training with Shiva Rea, 40-hours Yoga Nidra through Divine Sleep and most recently became a Trauma-Informed yoga training through Zabie Yamasaki.
Jess has taught in the U.S., Canada and Sweden. Her classes are fun moving and meditative – sprinkled with music to help inspire the body and relax the mind. Jess has worked for many years within the non-profit sector, particularly within the human services and the environmental services realm. Her passion for community and her desire to lift those in need up ultimately led her to become a health coach with the Institute for Integrative Nutrition with extensive studies at the Raw Foods Institute. Alongside becoming a Reiki Master, she now encourages people to nourish themselves on the inside and out, and helping them find balance and peace in their lives on and off the mat.
