Office Yoga + B Corp = Force for GOOD
The mission behind B Corporation is to use business as a force for good. In order for a company to become a certified B Corp, it has to go through a rigorous independent assessment of its impact in the world- on communities, on people and on the environment. The assessment is over 400 questions long, takes hours to complete and often takes years to get to the finish line because they have to actively change the way they do things. Right now there are 2,500 certified B corp companies and 70,000 have taken the assessment, many of them actively trying to make positive change.
I am thrilled to announce that as of this week Office Yoga is officially a Certified B Corporation! This certification took me over a year to file and complete, and I am VERY proud to be in a network of other companies who have also been through this rigorous process.
Certified B Corps are a fairly new kind of business that balances purpose and profit. They are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions on their workers, customers, suppliers, community, and the environment. This is a community of leaders, driving a global movement of people using business as a force for GOOD!
Why did Office Yoga become B Corp Certified?
My first deep dive to B Corp was with Lorna Davis, Senior advisor to Danone’s CEO and Global Ambassador for B Lab on Supply Chain and B Corps. She spoke about the dance between competition and collaboration- when we collaborate we become stronger competitors. I felt like I had been on my own for 6 years offering services as a force for good. When I heard Lorna Davis talk about B Corp, I knew this was a community I wanted to collaborate with.
What are Office Yogas aspirations? What are you aiming/shooting for as a B Corp?
“Just in the US, the excess deaths from exposure to workplace stress is probably costing 120,000 lives a year,” Jeffrey Pfeffer, Stanford University. Studies in 2019 show that work is the leading cause of stress in 74% of Americans.
As founder of Office Yoga, my vision is to infuse yoga’s timeless teachings with today’s business culture so companies can operate at their greatest potential. This can be done through simple, 20-30 min daily practices. The practice done right integrates thinking, feeling and accountability. When these components are in alignment we can better manage the stressors in our lives. Changing the world is an inside job, so let’s get started…
